Hello,
Why is Bamboo flooring a Green product?

1. Rapidly renewable material
Bamboo grows very rapidly in nature.
Some people say it grows like a weed.
Some people say it is a weed.
I like it regardless.

2. Bamboo is very strong and durable
Ask questions from your supplier about where they get the Bamboo and how old the Bamboo is that they are harvesting. Choose a supplier who harvest Bamboo that is at least 6 years old or older. The end product will be stonger and have a better shelf life.
Another Question to ask
How do they go about reforestation & and deforestation?
What guidelines and specifications do they follow if any?
Where does it come from?

3. Many color options and finish looks available.
It looks great.
That is what I always like in a product.
Types of finish
Natural, Carbonized Strandwoven, Blackbrushed Handscraped.

What is Carbonized?
Carbonized bamboo is darker in color because it has undergone a change, not a stain. During the manufacturing of the product, the strips of bamboo are boiled and change color (becoming browner in tone). This process also softens the material. Your manufacturer has develop a process in doing this better then others. Ask them what makes their product unique for this process.

What is Standwoven??
Strandwoven boards are manufactured to achieve greater strength and stability. The bamboo clum is crushed lengthwise and the strands are pressed & glued at extreme high pressure to produce boards (raw planks).

4. The type of grain pattern you specify can change the look.
Some people have commented to me they do not like the asian look of the grain in bamboo.
This grain pattern is more apparent when specifing a horizontal grain option.
It is very subtle when you specify the Bamboo with vertical grain.
When you see it install in the vertical grain many people will mistake it for a typical hardwood floor.

5. Make sure the glue meets E-1 standards for low emmiting VOC

How much does Bamboo flooring cost?
Well today you probably can get good flooring at around $2.50 per square foot.

Be careful on the lower price Bamboo because they are probably cutting corners and giving people a bad taste of cheap bamboo. Not fair to you or Bamboo.

6. Look for companies that are explaining how they are carmelizing the product in ways that does not weaken the Bamboo.

7. Bamboo floors come prefinished ready to install so harmful off gasing is not present day one of occupany. Be careful of sealants and glues used as well. Also be mindful of all your cleaning products that maintain all your finishes in your spaces.
